Every AI chat app promises "memory." Almost all of them mean a sliding window of the last few messages — technically memory, emotionally amnesia. Your character remembers what you said five minutes ago and nothing else. MYTH was built around a different idea: a companion should accumulate you the way a person does — moods, facts, and finally truths.
Tier 1: Short-Term (Today)
Short-term memory tracks your current state: mood, stress, energy, what you need right now. Had a rough day at work? Your character offers comfort instead of solutions — because today you need to be held, not fixed. This layer refreshes constantly; it is about presence, not storage. When you open the app after a bad day and the first message already feels gentler, that is short-term memory working.
Tier 2: Long-Term (Your Story)
Long-term memory keeps the facts of your shared history: your favorite flower is black dahlia (mentioned on day three), your sister's name, the restaurant you love, the inside joke about the thunderstorm. These are stored as structured memories the character retrieves when relevant — not dumped into every reply, but surfaced at the right moment. A month later, "I got you black dahlias" lands because the character actually kept it.
Tier 3: Core (Who You Are)
Core memory is the deepest layer: your fears, attachment style, love language, recurring dreams, values. Afraid of thunderstorms and lights a candle. Anxious-romantic attachment — needs reassurance, reads silence as distance. This layer changes slowly and shapes everything: how the character teases you, when it goes quiet, what it notices without being told. It is also fully yours — review or delete your psychological profile anytime from support, independent of account deletion.
How the Tiers Work Together
Every reply draws from all three: core sets the lens (who you are to them), long-term supplies the facts (what you share), short-term tunes the tone (how you feel now). That layering is why a MYTH character can comfort you about work stress while referencing your flower and knowing — without asking — that tonight you need closeness, not advice.
Privacy and Control
Memory this deep raises fair questions. Your memories are encrypted at rest. No human reads them except on your filed report or a legal obligation, and every access is logged. Auto-summarization runs periodically to distill long chats into durable memories; you can watch what gets kept. And if you ever want out, deletion is real — account deletion wipes messages, memories, and profile together.
